A high proportion of old houses dependent on oil pushes our area’s carbon consumption up well above the national average. Here are some local and national resources to help see what can be done to make your home as sustainably energy efficient as possible.
Bath and West Community Energy Home Energy Service
A local hub of independent, expert advice and support for warm, efficient, low carbon homes in our community. They offer a FREE home visit to help understand what’s possible for your home and practical next steps. They also offer more in depth home energy assessments, and heat pump assessments, with advice to help you find the best energy efficient solutions for your home.
Bright Green Homes: retrofit funding for residents
You could get free home energy improvements to make your home warmer, cheaper to heat and better for the environment. Bright Green Homes offers a FREE energy‑efficiency home assessment, and funding for retrofit improvements such as insulation or low‑carbon heating. In some cases, the full cost of the work can be covered.
The scheme is delivered across Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and North Somerset in partnership with Bristol City Leap and local councils. Click on the link above to see if you meet eligibility criteria to apply.
BANES Energy at Home
The council-run Energy at Home project offers information about the latest funding and support available to help our residents save money on energy bills and upgrade their home’s energy efficiency (retrofit). The website linked above is a great resource of money-saving grants, and practical help.
Green Heritage Homes Project
Run by BANES, the Bath Preservation Trust, the Centre for Sustainable Energy, Bath and West Community Energy, and People Powered Retrofit, this local project supports owners of historic and listed buildings in addressing both conservation and climate change challenges. Homeowners are able to get planning and energy advice at the same time, with a joint home visit from a BWCE energy expert and a council Conservation Officer.
Bath Preservation Trust Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Support
Bath preservation Trust offers lots of guidance for owners of older and listed properties on how to manage a sensitive energy-efficient retrofit.
Boiler Upgrade Grants
Through the government-run Boiler Upgrade Scheme, you could get a grant to cover part of the cost of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with a heat pump or biomass boiler. You can use the grant to replace a heating system in your home or a building used for your business.
